Black Thumbnails

I'm so thrilled to have been given Photoshop CS from my dh for Christmas. One odd thing, it is making black thumbnails of most of the psd files - JPGS are fine. In the beginning I thought it must be because i had a couple of layouts started in Photoshop 6 completed in CS, but this is not so.
Odder is that some are appearing fine - has anyone else had this happen? Take care, Meryl

I have had this happen when a layout has not saved properly and also had this when a file has been missing when I downloaded..

Does it open okay?

Julie

I don't have CS, but had this problem quite a while back with an older version of Photoshop. If I remember correctly, I had turned off the "Save Image Preview" (or something like that) option under the file handling section in the preferences. Also, there is a thumbnail checkbox in the options when you do a Save As, which could be related.

Are the ones that are ok layered files? If the preview has been turned off, maybe it can make a thumbnail anyway if there are no layers? Strange...

Good luck!

Thanks Kim - it seems to be totally erratic - sometimes the thumbnail is perfect, sometimes black & from what I can see I'm doing the same thing all the time. All layers etc are fine & as I said clicking on the ugly black thing the file opens as usual.
Now its weekend I'll get my dh to look at it again.
Thanks for you help, Meryl
