PS7: How to erase backgrounds?

I am trying to remove background from image but the person's hair is blowing in the wind. What is the best way to remove the background from the hair with erasing the hair?

I tried using magic eraser and l***o but I don't have the patience for the hair details. Any suggestions?

I've always found that this is a game of patience - best tutorial I've used is http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/hair/hair.htm
Good luck & take care, Meryl

I use the airbrush tool sometimes- be sure to use a really small brush when you get close to the hair. It is very difficult to use the magic wand and l@sso with hair sometimes- because it looks like you cut the picture out and pasted it on another bg

I just pick a nearby color with the eyedropper and then airbrush away! When you get close to the hair zoom waaaaaay in- sometimes I work at 600% for fine details.

Also, changing it to black and white is a little more forgiving than color

Another note (forgive me if you already know this)- don't worry if you make a mistake with the l@sso and/or magic wand. Just wait til you're done- then select the inverse and l@sso back your mistakes then select inverse again, etc. etc.

Photoshop has a tool exactly for this problem. Under Filters, choose Extract. A window will open.

Use BIG brushes for the hair and small brushes for the rest of the person. You will need to do some extra clean up with the eraser tool after you finish, but this should work.

I would think that selecting color range would get it...
Here is a link to a free video tutorial for PS7...

What I love about Photoshop is that there are always half a dozen ways to do anything. All of them work some of the time. If one method doesn't work, try a different one. <grin>
