Laptop information

I'm looking at getting a laptop. Will 2 gig sdram be enough to run PSCS3? Someone mentioned that Vista takes a lot of ram. One person at a local store said I should get 4 gig sdram. That seems a little much to me.
Anyone running a laptop with Vista? And how does PS work with it?

EZ

Hi EZ,
I'm looking at getting a laptop within the next month too. I think 2 gigs is enough, but I'm also making sure to get something with expandable RAM so I can increase at a later date. BTW, what are you getting?

I think 2 g should be enough but ditto what LaWanna said. From what I have been reading, it is Vista that is a hog and then add to that a program like CS3.. ugh.

LD,
I'm just in the looking stage now, and I'm open to any good brand.
My last six computers have been Gateway. I have a desk top and a laptop M460. My laptop has 1gig and is running XP 2nd edition.
I have no problem running PSCS3 with it.

I'm actually looking for an even smaller laptop or notebook computer in the range of 12 or 13 inch screen. Gateway has a 12 inch screen, but to upgrade to 2gigs the price is up around $1,600.00 to $1,700.00. That seems high when you can get a 15 inch screen Gateway with 2 gigs at a retail store ( Best Buy) for around $1,000.

In an earlier post, Pesto mentioned that you should get a laptop with the max sdram that you might want, because it's a real pain to upgrade ram in a laptop at a later time.

Maybe it depends which laptop you purchase but upgrading RAM isn't that hard anymore as long as there are slots to accommodate and you can find the exact RAM you need. We upgraded ours easy peasy. It only came with like 512 and upgraded to 1g, plus it was cheaper that way.

I have a 12" HP laptop from Best Buy with Vista. I am running with 1GB of RAM with PSCS3 with no problems. It is upgradeable but I haven't really looked into it yet. I only use it when I travel to stay connected with family - I was even able to get a connection in Tibet!

Ya some laptops you cant upgarde teh RAm or they have already filled the RAM slots with small RAM chips and so you have to replace both slots to get the upgrade you want.
You could buy a $1000 laptop and then upgrade the RAM (checking that you can before you buy) - you shoudl also get a dedicated graphics card - it will help enormously with PSCS3
Im a fan of Dell because you can build it with what you want but really Its probbaly cheaper in the long run to go with more than you need right now than to upgrade later so if you can stretch to the 4GB then do it.
