How do I make a rectangle (w/o the fill?)

Hi, this might be the easiest thing to do but I can not figure it out. I want to make a border around my text without having to make an actual filled rectangle. How do I do that?

Make your rectangle with your marquee tool. Fill it with any color. In your layer styles do a stroke (outside for rounded edges inside for square edges. Then, on your layers palette...adjust the fill down to 0.

Thanks, sounds a lil like what I tried. I made a rectangle, filled it white and stroked it. Then I made that my bottom layer. Thanks for your tip, it will definately help...

Actually

all you need to do is create a new layer, draw a rectangle using your marquee tool and then Edit STROKE. Select the amount of pixels that you want to have depending on how thin a line you want and the colour you wish to stroke it at. YOu don't have to fill it at all.

Yes, Christina, it also works in photoshop Elements 2.0. I just tried it the way Maya explained it. It's one of those things that's not very obvious, but once you discover it will probably get used a lot.
