Bummed over PS8 update...

I have just read that PS8 will only work under Win 2000 or XP operating systems and that it will not work with most of the plug-ins and filters already on the market (both purchased and free). I was looking forward to upgrading, but currently use Win98 OS. We just upgraded DH computer to WinXP but I was saving my funds for the PS upgrade. So after 7 years of "playing" with PS, I think I am getting ready to switch to either PSP or PI. I hear alot of good things about both products from the members of this and other groups. Both PSP and PI's current version is under $100 for the FULL program and both products will work with Win98 and XP. Seems like the PSP and PI members can do anything and everything us PS members can and both programs can use the Adobe plug-ins, filters and brushes. Does anyone have/use PS8 yet and are you experiencing problems using current add-on filters and plug-ins? Is the information correct about the other 2 programs being able to use these plug-ins and such?

Thanks in advance for any input anyone may have. I probably won't make any purchases until after Thanksgiving, but would love hearing your input.

PS8 and Plugins

Have had PS8 for a few days, have reinstalled following plugins with no problem running them -
Dreamsuite I & II from Auto FX
Extensis Photoframe
Extensis Intellihance
Photographic Edges from Auto FX
The tube conversion plugin that converts PSP tubes to
be usable in Photoshop (can't remember name of it)

Have others, as I find them, will update whether they work or not. I did install XP awhile back because it is so much more stable than Windows ME that was crashing twice a month. It was worth the decrease in stress from the crashes.

As a computer-scrapper and a digital photographer, I really like several new features -
- you can put text on any shape or path you want to
- there is a new highlight/shadow tool that can bring
out detail in pics that are too dark especially
- if you want to use several pictures on a page that are
different originally in color tonal range, you can choose
the one you like best and use the new color match
tool to make the others similar
- photomerge tool is improved
- they have improved the image browser
There is enough about it that I like to justify the expense of the
upgrade(for me, software junky that I am). They have also made the help files more friendly with tutorials and it comes with a one hour trng video if you buy the box version of upgrade.

From what I have heard and seen around, I'll probably be skipping this upgrade and waiting for PS9... we'll see though. I really hate not being in "the latest and greatest" version!

From a photographer's view, one of the most important new tools is the Raw conversion, to import Raw files in to PS.

I suspect I will really like the 'text following a curve' feature too, that's one I have wanted for awhile.

I don't get it.... you say you've playing with PS for 7 years and now, because of rumours.... you'll downgrade to PSP???

If any of these rumors were true you should simply stick to PS7 until they come up with a patch for the plug-ins....

PS7 only had problems with KPT3.... until the 7.1 fix.

Calling PSP a downlgrade is a bit harsh. I have both PSP and PS installed in my computer, have for years. I use PSP for 98% of my scrapping. I use PS for actions, style, etc. that cannot be run in PSP. Quite simply, I *prefer* PSP. It is a choice, not a downgrade in the slightest.
