adding pictures to a frame overlay

I have this neat frame overlay that I'd like to use for the twins' birthday party pics. There is one big frame and 32 small frames. I won't obviously be filling all of the 32 up, but can anyone tell me how I get the pics in the frames? I was thinking it was just like a sketch, but it's not. Here's a picture of it:

Hmm, I would use the Magic Wand tool to remove the purple and red and make it into an overlay.... but that's just me. Any other thoughts?

You'll want to put each pic on it's own layer underneath this overlay. If the colors here are part of it they will need to go on the bottom layer- that way the color will only show through where there aren't any photos.

also, don't be afraid to have one photo take up more than one space or put words or letters in one or more spaces.

Here's something similar that I did awhile back- only I had a big photo in the background:

No, the color in the background is just a paper. Since the overlay is white, I thought putting it against a paper would allow people to see it better against the light green background for posts.

Ok, so basically, I just need to size the photos to fit in each square (or a couple of squares)? Should I enlarge it first and then reduce the size?

If you follow Lisa's instructions to have just the frame part as an overlay, you can then use masking to fill in the spots of the frame.

Here's a tutorial on how to do that.

Multi-frame masking

Good luck - I think it will look very nice when you're all done.

You really never want to enlarge a photo as a rule- unless it's just a tad.

Ok- I'm not as fancy as Nancy - so I'll give you another option- epsecially if you are using more than one photo.

drag all of the photos onto your layout that you think you'll use
be sure that the grid is on the top layer
then click on the layer of the photo that you want to do first
in the layers pallette, drag it up so that it is right under the grid layer
move it around with the move tool to where you want it to be under 1 or more squares of the grid

click on the the grid layer in the layers pallette
I would then use the rectangular marquee tool to make a square over one or more of the squares (I find that the magic wand doesn't always get to the edge if you select inside a shape- so then you're left with gaps unless you expand the selection first- although if your grid is white and your background is white- you won't be able to tell. )
be sure to stay on the white of the grid while you are dragging out the marquee

switch back to the photo layer that you were on (the marching ants will follow to whatever layer is active)
then right click>make copy from selection
click on the eye of the original photo under that layer and then later delete it when you are happy

repeat the above for each photo

holler if you need more help
