Font thickness

I am trying to learn PS 7. For the life of me I cannot find where to make the font line thicker. I know how to adjust the font size. I see where to kern and adjust line spacing. The only thing I have done is add a stroke to the font to make it thicker. Is there a part of the character pallette that is for font thickness? Thank you.

On the character pallette in the top right corner, just under the red X, there is a little arrow with a fly-out menu. If you click on it, "faux bold" is one of the choice. This will make the font thicker. It isn't adjustable though - just either on or off.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Nancy S. I will look into this. In PSP you can change the font size the same way you can the line thickness. I thought Photoshop might do this, too.

I've just been on CS 2 since before Christmas, so just a newbee. I opened up my PSP 9 and there is certainly a width which I guess I fondly recall now that you mention it. I checked CS 2 high and low and the character plaette certainly does not have a width on it. I did the stroke in the same color like you mentioned. Stroke, outside position and increased the size. Will watch this thread to see if anyone else knows. Possibly it's just a thing CS 2 doesn't do as easily as PSP. Hard to believe that's for sure!

No you are right if a bold version of the font is not included with the font, then you would need to rasterized the font and increase the size yourself. I believe this is done this way because when printing the font for publications you need to have a true font. Once you rasterize the font your can right click on the font icon in your layers palette then go to Select-Modify-Expand and put in the number of pixels you want to enlarge the font. Then fill with the color you want. You could also stroke the front rather than expanding the selection. Just another approach.

Thanks-I hadn't thought about rasterizing first then manipulating it.
