trouble with brushes now!

I am just learing how to use Adobe after switching from Photo Impact, so bear with me if my questions seem silly LOL

Anyway, I was able to use the brushes in photoshop CS, but now when I try to, you can' t see them when I try to use them. Actually, you can just barely see the brush stroke in just a hint of a shade lighter than the background. Help! What am I doing wrong!?!?

TIA

My guess is that your Opacity is turned down on your color for the brush stroke..?
Another thing is that some brushes have very little design/detail to them, you might have to click a few time in the exact same spot to make them darker how you want them....

I thought about the opacity too, but it is turned all the way up. And when I click it a few times, it does make it darker but it smears it.

It's weird because it was not like this before when I was trying out all the brushes.

Thanks for the advice though
