Photoshop CS2 stops!

I've got Photoshop CS2 again now, but what happens when I've installed everything and want to open the program...? Yes, this message pops up: "Reading text global resources", and everything freezes. I can't get to open the program because of this. I googled this text, and was adviced to delete something, and that is what I did last time I had this program. All the things that I was adviced to do didn't work, and therefore I gave it up. I'm about to go crazy because of this Photoshop mess!

I want to scrap, not have these problems bugging me.

I have had the same exact problem at the same exact time. It gets to the Global Resources part and freezes. I have to restart my computer and then go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and insert the PSCS2 disk to fix the problem. Last night I downloaded a bunch of fonts from DaFont and installed to my Font Suitcase. Then when I opened CS2 it froze. I have had to do the ADD/REMOVE programs thing probably 4 or 5 times now. I would love to know how to fix this problem permanently, too.

after doing the Add/Remove go in and just completely delete the Adobe folder, or just he CS folder if you have Elements or another version in there!

Also, when reinstalling or uninstalling from CD, do NOT click Save my Preferences

My Bridge quit working, and no amount of removing, uninstalling, reinstalling would make it come alive again. Finally in the hands of my more capable husband, he skipped the install wizard and just grabbed what he needed from the CD directory in Windows and patched the software. Adobe doesn't seem to really uninstall the thing, especially if Save my Preferences is checked. A hard delete to get rid of leftovers seems to help

What has probably happened is that your preferences file may have become corrupted. In fact, I had the EXACT same problem and resetting my preferences file was the advice I found in the Adobe Knowledge Base. It worked!

Luckily it's quite simple to fix this. As quickly as you can after starting Photoshop (don't wait for the the splash screen), press and hold <Alt><Control><Shift>, if you are on a windows system. On a Mac press and hold <Option><Command><Shift>. A dialogue window will appear asking to to confirm that you want to delete the current settings.

This is just one of many odd things that can happen when your preferences file becomes corrupt. Whenever PS starts behaving oddly I consider creating a new preferences file (as referred to above) and 99% of the time that's all it takes.

Tip: When you have reset your file...take your time and make sure that you have all your preferred settings in place once again and then IMMEDIATELY save a backup of the preferences file to another location on your hard drive so that you can restore it easily the next time your file becomes corrupt.

The location of the preferences files vary by PS version, but if you go to Adobe's site and search the term "Location of Photoshop preferences files" you'll find a document that tells you where to find them!

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for the advice! :-) I will be trying that next time PS acts up on me. I'm going to have to save this advice for quick reference later because I know I won't remember all of that. lol

Thanks again!! :-)

I had this problem with a free plugin once, my PS just froze and wouldn't start. Luckily I guessed right and deleted the filter. Worked again. PS loads all filters and stuff already while the program opens, so some filters and fonts can cause these crashes.
Good luck!
