Help files are not there?

Has anyone else had a problem with the help files in pscs2 not showing up? I checked at adobe and saw that this is indeed an issue. There was a suggestion posted, but it didn't work for me. I have posted for further direction. In the mean time I was wondering if anyone here has had or heard of this problem?

Melanie

similar problem...

I had the same problem with my new installation of PSE 4.0! It drove me NUTS trying to fix it!!

I had to install some Adobe Help Center application first, then configure it to read the PSE 4.0 help file. (ARGH! What do they have against RoboHelp or some windows based help system anyway!!)

There is probably a similar issue with PhotoShop. Try the support forums at Adobe for the instructions.

HTH!

I had the same thing happen. I had been using it (PS CS2) for a couple of months...and then all of the sudden it was gone. I even reinstalled and it did not work. I found the sollution on the Adobe users forums site, but the first couple of trys I did not get it to work. I didn't think the instructions were quite clear enough for me. remember things not being exactly the same. I remember emailing in and asking more questions and tried a few things. Unfortunately this was about 3 months ago or so I don't recall exactly what I ended up doing to get it to work. Finally it all reconstructed for me and all went well and have never had it happen again. Actually there might be some threads on this site about it also. I do recall just googling also and found some conversations on it. If you search for those or maybe even emailing the person on the Adobe thread you'll probably find more info on it. I can't remember if I had other folders or what the deal was. Make sure you are in the right folder. Don't bother reinstalling, it will not help, you've got to delete the folders.

CS2 Help Files not displaying

LenHewitt - 12:42am Jul 21, 2005 Pacific

1. Try deleting the Help Preference file by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT whilst starting Help.

2. Assuming ahc.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center,
delete the following folders

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Cache
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Database
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Preferences
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Search

The only folder under C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData
you should have left is one called packages.
Run ahc.exe
What should happen is that your help center database should get rebuilt (you
will see progress messages as it process each help package) and everything
should work.

Doris and Lisa,

Yes, I found the posts on the Adobe forums about the help files too. I tried everything in there. None of those things worked...

What finally worked for me was just manually placing the files that were missing into the proper folder. The same thing was happening for Adobe Bridge. That wasn't working either. I have no idea why they didn't install with the ps install. It makes no sense.

LenHewitt replied with this post that finally got me my help files and Adobe Bridge! I used solution #2, worked perfectly. I'm a happy camper now!

Thanks for all your efforts to help guys!
