Question BRAND new to Photoshop

Hi all..... I am BRAND new to photoshop..... for the last couple of years I have used DIP10, and I want to be more creative. I have PhotoshopCS. I am totally a beginner and need to find some good tutorials to even learn how to use the program (free would be best :-))..... Do you all have any suggestions? Please??? lol I open it up and close it cause I get so very confused.

Thank you!!!

Hi, none off the top of my head, but I know there are a lot of them out there!
Try the tutorial section here at SBB for PSCS programs and also check out the Directory link http://scrapbook-bytes.com/links/ to URL's that have been posted for people using PSCS!!

First, here's a link to the tutorial section here at SBB

Tutorials.

I know exactly what you are going through, but you'll be fine. One of the things to start, is to locate the items you are familiar with from DIP. They are probably there in PS, but maybe just called something a little different. For example, I think DIP calls it a stack, but in PS it is called a layer. And instead of a column along the right side, PS has a floating layers palette, but they basically operate the same.

Since Microsoft is the maker of DIP, the menus have looked very familiar to other MS programs, so one thing that will be different is that things will be located in a different place, but when you find them they will function nearly the same.

And I know people have an aversion to use Help files, but I've always found Adobe's to be very good. Check out the Work Area section and the Layers information in the Help also. And thankfully, Adobe did put the Help section in a familiar place.

We're ready for all your questions here also, so fire away.

There are thousands of tuts out on the internet Besides the items already mentioned, just google. You'll find more than you know what to do with. I've bookmarked so many I'll never get to them. Just depends on what your interests are. Here are a couple to get you started.

Wow that's some jump! LOL. Seriously, I don't know too much about DIP but I do just want to say not to get too frustrated with yourself during the learning process. It will seem like you are not getting anywhere, but before you know it you'll be thinking "in photoshop" lol. I say you open photoshop and don't look back. Good luck! :-)

Hi Carol!

Haven't seen you around these parts in a LOOOOONG time!

My suggestion, would be to get in on the next school of scrap taught by Amy for Photoshop! There is AWESOME information in there that gets you familiar with the most common functions, and most importantly, confidence to do more

I'm right there with you!! I have been using DIP Suite too, and am now making the jump to PSCS. I got the program originally because I was going to take a college graphics class. I didn't end up taking the class (kiddos and all) but kept the program and the required book, which is called Adobe Photoshop CS2 Classroom in a Book. I just started going through the lessons in it yesterday. I think once we get past that 'gotta have the familiar--Microsoft feel' thing, we'll adjust to CS just fine! I have been totally overwhelmed by it too, and up until today, every time I opened the program I'd just hunt around for a minute and then close it, mystified. Make sure ya post what you're learning! I've been doing lessons on using the UNDO and History functions (you can only UNDO ONCE!) History is another undo function, with a limit of 20 times. >;[ If you get this book I bet you'll whiz right through. Look on Amazon. That's where I got it.
