Layer knocks out drop shadow? Not here.

Hi,

does anybody know how to solve this problem. My "layer knocks out drop shadow" option doesn't seem to work. I want to add a shadow to a vellum, but the shadow is everywhere, no matter if I check that box or not.

I tried to put the shadow on a separate layer and select the vellum to delete it from the shadow layer, but I can't select the vellum either. Obviously, for some reason, PS only recognizes the brads that came on the vellum. Isn't that funny?

Anybody elese have this problem with that option or know a cure?

Thanks in advance.

I used this tutorial over the weekend. It worked great! Might help you a little in PS?

I guess that's why I always use pre-made vellum. After making the shadow it's own layer, you could manually erase the parts underneath the vellum. w/the shadow layer selected, ctrl + click on the vellum box and just use your eraser to erase that part?

Thanks, that is what doesn't work. If I ctr click the vellum layer, the only things that are being selected are the brads that were put on the vellum by the desiger of that element. No idea, why.
Anyway, I managed to do it by selecting the vellum manually with the selection tool.
Still, I'm puzzled why my layer knocks out shadow option doesn't work...

I believe with some versions (older) there is a level of transparency where PS will no longer recognize that the pixels exist when doing the control-click. I don't know what the percentage is though. I would guess that is what is happening for you.

Hi Rikki, I recently had the same problem. The reason was the same as Nancy mentioned. Enhance your value for "layer opacity" to 100 % and it should work. If it doesn´t help you can send me a pm; maybe I can be more helpful, if I can answer in German...

when you lower the opacity of a layer you also lower the opacity of the styles....
to achieve the look you are wanting...lower the FILL not the opacity
