After I make my path with the pen tool and place my text curser at the beginning I am able to only type the first letter and not able to continue along the path. Is anyone else having the same problem, or could you please tell me what I am doing wrong and how to correct the problem.

try selecting left align text in the top option bar (or paragraph palette) for your text- that usually happens if you have the center text option selected
