Realistic cardstock in Photoshop CS?

I've been trying to create realistic looking cardstock in Photoshop CS and haven't been able to get it looking just right ... I've been playing around with the texturizer, using canvas and playing with the scaling, relief and light, but I keep getting vertical lines in there that look weird.

Does anyone use this technique and care to share the settings that have worked for you?

Does anyone else have another CS technique that works for them?

Thanks. Love this forum!

Amy

You could try scanning in some cardstock with a texture that you like. If you save it as a black and white PSD file you can then load it into the texturiser and use it on your layouts. Feel free to PM me if you need more help to do it this way

Thanks, Pam. I don't have a scanner right now (one is on the way!) but when I get one I will certainly try this. I did find a few interesting textures on the internet which I have loaded into my texturizer and I'm getting some good results. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'd still love to hear from anyone else who has a good method for creating realistic cardstock. I'm trying to get that "Bazzill" textured look.

I use PSE but here's what I like to do. Set your background color slightly lighter or darker than your foreground color. Then use the clouds filter. Then add noise, just a little. You can also use the blur filter if necessary. This adds just a little variation in color that you usually see in cardstock. Then add your texture.

Also, realize that the repetitive lines you're seeing may be on screen only. Plus, once you design on top of it with photos and other elements, the repetitive nature of the filter won't be obvious.

Hi Amy
Look at your page at 25, 50, or 100%
To save time photoshop doesn't "draw" perfectly on the 33.333, 66.666 etc.

50% will give you a really good idea of what to expect.

Bazzill look

I have a tutorial that is easy and quick and I think looks great. It was by Kelly Shults. I made a pdf. of it luckily, because when I checked that site just now I got a "site suspended" notice. Perhaps there is some way to contact her? I also use PSCS and am very happy with how the tutorial works.
