Photoshop 7

I have Photoshop 7. I've been using DIP for lo's but have recently just begun to play with making my own kits. I am so lost and frustrated with this program. Even with tutorials I end up quitting halfway through because I just have no clue what's going on in this program.

Are there any good books on getting familiar with this program?

Anything by Scott Kelby or Deke McClelland is great, especially Scott's books. They aren't written for scrapbookers, unfortunately, but they will help you understand Photoshop better. You may even want to look for something like Photoshop for Dummies (no offense!) to help with the basics. I love Photoshop, have used it since version 3 and now have CS (sort of version 8). I hated it at first, but stuck with it and now can't imagine doing anything without it! But if you're more comfortable with another program, maybe you should just stick with that one. Photoshop is a lot of fun though!
Good luck!

See if you can find a book at your local library. That is what I did so I could learn the program and then I can find a book later to buy that is maybe more advanced since I know the basics.

I second the suggestion for Scott Kelby... his work is awesome! I love his tutorial style. He writes as if he's sitting right next to you talking to you... Definitely recommended...

I have both Kelby and McLelland and consult them regularily. However, to get weaned off PSP to PSCS I bought a Show Me book. Nothing fancy in it whatsoever. But goes through all the tools etcetera and says in order to x, do 1, 2, 3. That is what I needed--I couldn't even figure out the layers palette when I started!

If you go to a bookstore, they have a whole range of Show Me books--it is part of Que Publishing (Que does a lot of software manuals for Word and the Like). The full logo is See it done. Do it yourself. Prefer it to the "Dummy" series. Jacket promises: "Instead of making you read lots of text to find out how to use a technology or software, we'll show you how to do it...this series uses a visual page design with small blocks of easy to read text to teach beginning to intermediate level tasks. You will spend much less time reading and more time doing..." and delivered just that for me.

Kelby and McLelland are brilliant and are already well thumbed but when I was trying to learn PS, I wanted something to the point without a lot of bells and whistles. Every page has a paragraph of text that is general / theoretical but the bulk of the page is a close up of the particular palette or image on the right with numbered labels that correspond to a list of numbered instructions on the left. I basically went through it from beginning to end in a week and enough stuck in my brain to get me up and running instead of staring at my workspace forlornly clicking my right mouse button (which made a lot of magic happen in PSP but does basically nothing in PS).
