classroom in a book?

I have borrowed the classroom in a book for photoshop 6 from my father in law, but have been very frustrated because things it tells me to do are different in 7 and I can't help but wonder if I am missing new things that 7 can do that 6 couldn't. I have found the book new for photoshop 7 for $20 and am wondering if anyone has bought it and thinks that it would be a worthwhile buy for me? Also, if you know any books that would be better, easier, etc. let me know.

TIA
Shawnery

I bought the classroom in a book way way way back with Photoshop 3. It was good, but it really didn't help me understand why I was doing the steps. It just said "click this, now click this" etc. I need to know why I'm clicking something so in the future if I need to do only that one part, I'll know how to do it. I've got CS, but had 6 earlier and loved books by Deke McClelland and Scott Kelby. Both explain why something works. I'd recommend anything by them. For cool fun stuff, see if there's the Photoshop Wow for your version, it has a CD that you install to do other stuff with Photoshop. I had it for version 3 and loved it! Good luck!

I've use Classroom in a Book for CS, and while I've learned from it, I enjoyed working through Scott Kelby's PSCS for Digital Photographers a lot more. He has a fun writing style and makes everything easy to understand. I imagine he's done a book for 7 as well.

classroom in a book vs kelby

I wholeheartedly agree with imaharpist, the Kelby books are far more digestable for the intermediate user. I learned a LOT from the CS revision.

Head smacking, "Ohh OK, so THATS how that works" moments were to be had in every chapter. His books go down a lot more smoothly than the clinical, geek oriented texts that can seem after a few paragraphs like they are written in Klingon.
