How do I...

make a "sanded" look on my pages. I am trying to scraplift an LO from a mag I have and the LO has the edges of the pages sandpapered, how do I do that in photoshop?

Also, in another page I was looking at I saw a cute bookplate that someone had used a technique to make the paint crack. I was wondering if anyone knew a quick and easy way to do that. If not, let me know what the difficult and long way is, cause I want to try it .

I have to say that I was reading through my scrapbook magazine yesterday and I thought "hah, hah, I don't have to spend all that time and money creating my own foam stamps, I can make it on photoshop for free!" I am loving this already, and so is my DH.

TIA for your help
Shawnery

On the crackled look, I really think that the Bark pattern in PSE gives a great quick crackle look. It's in the patterns under Texture Fill. Here's how I've crackled papers in PSE there should be similar steps and the Bark Pattern in PS.
  1. Create a new layer with a pattern fill... Layer>New fill layer>Pattern...
  2. In the New Layer window, name the new layer if desired and click OK.
  3. Click the down arrow next to the pattern thumbnail to see the currently loaded patterns.
  4. In the pull down menu, click the right arrow and then select Texture Fill from the list
  5. Select the Bark preview. (the third one on the list)
  6. Adjust the scale of the pattern. I like to use ~200%.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Initially the pattern is B/W but use the overlay modes to find a crackle result that your like.

HTH!

Hi Shawnery -- Try downloading this image: crackle tile and define it as a pattern within Photoshop. (Select the entire image, go to Edit menu, Define Pattern, and go through the dialog boxes). Then follow Stacey's directions above to add a new pattern fill layer, and scale the crackle pattern as you like. Play with the blending modes (I prefer Overlay) and transparency of the fill layer.

This image is from stock.xchng -- check it out for lots of great photos to use for patterns, textures, backgrounds or whatever, most with no usage restrictions whatsoever. I've adapted the crackle so it will tile without obvious seams. It works well on solid color areas (though it changes the color a bit), not so well on photos or things with lots of contrast and detail. Anyway, have fun with it!
