ok to use photoshopcs commercially

Has anyone confirmed with Adobe if Photoshop CS can be used to create background papers, elements, etc... for sale? Is a commercial license required? I want to get into this but trying to make sure I don't end up in court. Help.... Any tips on where to get good legal fonts and clip art?

I can't imagine it NOT being ok. There have to be millions of graphic designers and photographers making a living using Photoshop. As long as you're using a licensed, non-educational version, I think you'll be fine.

Actually I am right now investigating the purchase of photoshop with academic pricing and I just read this on the adobe site:

Quote:
There are no restrictions on the use of educational product versions for commercial purposes, and educational customers may continue to purchase regular upgrades upon completion of their studies. However, customers must first qualify to purchase edcational versions of Adobe products.
As well, their EULA contains no information indicating that academic versions are for educational use only, to the exclusion of commercial use. So the educational products appear to be okay for commercial use, as well.

Very interesting! So as long as you qualified for the purchase when you bought it, you can use it for commercial purposes later?

I was under the impression that an educational product did not qualify for future upgrade pricing either. I hope I'm wrong because we've got the creative suite that my husband purchased while a student and I'd love to be able to upgrade without having to buy a full version. I'm already bugged that owning a windows version of PS7 did not qualify for an upgrade to CS for Mac, but that's another story.

I was quite surprised as well. I was prepared for the bad news lol, but it appears that yes there is also an upgrade path. So you can rejoice! You might find this page interesting.

Hi Gonedigital,

I'm not sure about Photoshop but with Photoimpact they do allow you to use the program for commercial purposes, however, some of the extra photographs they have on their CD as sample images are copyrighted and cannot be used. So it may be worth it to contact them directly about your specific use.
