getting ready to buy!

Okay all you photoshop gurus....since it looks like I'll be getting photoshop real soon, I want your opinion. I may go for the gusto and get the entire Creative Suite Premium 1.3 ....comes with photoshop and illustrator and some others....is it worth it? Or should I stick with "plain" photoshop. Anyone have any thoughts?

some info

Hi Dianne,

I really don't have any idea what the differences are between CS and regular PS since I have PS 7 but I saw this info on the veggie boards and thought you might like to read it before you buy.

ETA: After a little googling, I came up with an rumor that states "reliable sources indicate that Creative Suite 2.0 will ship in March 2005"

As far as features go, "Among the new features arriving in the next and ninth version of Photoshop, code-named Space Monkey, will be the ability to scale placed bit-mapped and vector files losslessly, including the ability to edit the original and have Photoshop update the file; an object-based user interface that will enable, for example, the ability to select multiple layers and perform manipulations across all of them at the same time; Editable Filters, allowing filters to update when filtered content is adjusted; HDR support; a customizable user interface; and a WYSIWYG Font menu.

Photoshop CS 2.0 will not feature 64-bit support, but lays the groundwork for that support, which will arrive with Photoshop 10 (presumably CS 3.0). Photoshop users will also have to wait until Version 10 for the software to use more than 2GB of RAM. Like the rest of the new Creative Suite 2.0 applications, Photoshop CS 2.0 will take advantage of Adobe's new cross-suite file browser, dubbed Bridge.

There have been rumblings that Creative Suite 2.0 will require stricter product activation than previous Adobe products, and sources say this new product activation mechanism could manifest itself in the stand alone version of Photoshop CS 2.0, as well."

Here is the website were you can read the full article web site

Thanks! I knew they were coming out with a new one, but I didn't know it was in March. Cool. I might wait for that.

i have used illustrator, for me i found that their was yet another learning curve and i havent wanted to take the time to learn to use it. BUT, for vector drawing it is wonderful! the smooth curves it produces are awsome! it pairs up great with a graphics tablet. sorry i am not much more help than that it really depends what you want to do with it.

perhaps you could try downloading a trial version first if they offer it?

you will adore photoshop though once you learn to work with it. just be prepared to gather up alot of your patience, you will quickly wear it thin at first

FYI-I am at the Photoshop World cconference right now...and although they haven't "Officially" announced it, there is a new version of Cs coming out called CS2....
and it was implied in a class yesterday that Illustrator "wouldn't be a necessity" ....they couldn't give out details b/c they haven't finalized anything yet....but there is some really cool things in this new version that we got a preview of!!!!!!

I would def. hold off until this new one comes out!

Well if I can just wait hehehehe that's the real issue isn't it! I keep thinking if I wait something will happen to stop me from getting it lol. I have been told, however, that if I buy after the announcement I'll be eligible for a free upgrade....but when oh when will they make the annoucement? Ack! I Want My Photoshop!
