diagonal lines

I am VERY new to photoshop and I have version 7. I was talking to my DH, who uses photoshop to do textures for a game that he is working on for fun with his friends (although he really doesn't know how to use the program that well either) and he asked me how I would do lines that are diagonal because every time he tries to make one or move something to go diagonal it is bumpy. Does anyone know a solution for that, because I definately don't want to put all my elements straight every time that seems kind of boring. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I use PSCS and I do it this way:

I use my brush tool and select a hard, round brush. I have the color I want my line to be as my foreground color. On my canvas, I click once where I want my line to start and, holding down the shift key, I then click where I want my line to end. This makes a straight line between the two points. It may look a little jagged on my canvas but I go into View>Actual Pixels and confirm that it is, in fact, smooth.

I'm kind of a beginner at PSCS, so I don't know if this is the preferred/easiest way to do it.

HTH!

i use ps7 (although i now have pscs but haven't used it much yet) and i do it one of two ways...
1. i create a line using the shift key as explained above, but i also hold down the umm, trying to remember, the alt key i think it is and that forces it to 45 degrees. if i want more or less than that, i just use the shift key and then hit theControl+T (for free transform) and then i hold the shift key down to keep it at defined proportions, and then rotate it the amount i want.

2. the other thing i do is if i am making diagonal stripes for example, is i will create them as vertical stripes and then rotate them all to form diagonal stripes.

hope this helps.

You could also use your paths option using your grid and/or guidlines to make sure your points are even and perfect...

Thank you

My DH and I thank you. He actually used your suggestions last night when he was doing his texturing work. He was so excited about it that I didn't get to use the computer. I will be inheriting the current computer when he upgrades to a better computer so I won't have to wait in line anymore .
