Font Problems, Again!

Ok, ok, this is a repeat and I feel so silly about it but I'm really hoping I can get this problem fixed. The last time I posted it, I rebooted my computer and it went away, so I reposted saying that it was fixed. Well, that lasted about 10 minutes and everything went haywire again. So, here we go again...

About half of the fonts in photoshop have started doing this wierd thing by leaving dead space in the center of each letter. It's doing it with both old fonts and new fonts just downloaded. Also, on some fonts it only does it with some letters - not all in that font file. I use photoshop 7 if that helps and to answer a question from my last post, it seems to do this only in photoshop, not in ms word. So, I don't know what any of this means, but I'm hoping one of you photoshop whiz's will. Thanks so much for your input on this, I really appreciate everyone's suggestions.

Here's a LO I posted with this problem, the words "of you..." (made from Jeana font) is the wierd one. Again, thanks a million for all of your help!

At first glance it looks as though you have your font set up to some how be an outline instead of a regular fill....but I don't have reg. ps so I don't know. Have you asked this question at the adobe support forums? Folks there are helpful and nice....

Hi there...your LO is beautiful! I don't have tons of experience, but it looks to me as though you may have a layer style on the layer with "of you..." You can tell by looking to the right of that particular layer and if there is an "f" on the side, there's a layer style applied.

HTH,

Suz

Hi Heather... I think I know exactly what the prob is... you have your character set to 'bold'. It will do that on the Scriptina font and a few others as well. I noticed that a few months ago by accident. Try going to your character box and un-click the bold feature. That should hopefully do the trick... Let us know what happens!

hope

I use CS but I am sure you can do this in 7 also. Click on your text tool, then at the top in the browser you will see the cap.T and a little black arrow beside it click on the arrow, a window will open on the right hand side of the window is a blue arrow, click on that arrow, a menu will open click on the words that says reset tool do not click reset all tools because it will reset all your tools and the only one you are having problems with is the TYPE tool. GOOD LUCK from Lynn (ldogman6)

Thanks

Thanks so much for the tips here, I really do appreciate it. Unfortunately , nothing seems to be working though. However, when I first open photoshop, the fonts are fine. So, I can open all of my messed up files first and correct them then close them before it all goes haywire. I know it's kind of a round about way to do them, but at least it works!

Thanks again for all of your thoughtfulness and replies!

Heather I'm glad you reposted this!
The more I think about it- I think it might be a memory issue- the way you said it's fine for about 10 min.

Try this in photoshop to clear your clipboard and anything else in memory:
Edit>Purge>All
You can do this multiple times for a short term fix

If that works- it means that you are working with a small amount of RAM and it's filling up fast every time- low memory can do freaky things

Try this in Photoshop:
Edit>Preferences>Memory
Increase your maximum amount of memory allocated to photoshop- I set mine to 80%. (If you run another big photo editting program at the same time you won't be able to set it that high.) You have to restart PS for this to take effect.

Also, to free up some RAM you can do this:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup (you can also run the defrag)

And at least once a week, if not more, I do this in windows:
Tools>Internet Options>General tab (temporary internet files)>Delete files
If you haven't done this for awhile it takes a looong time, but it's well worth it- this is one of the things that's done in the disk cleanup that I mentioned above

HTH- I know how frustrating computers can be!

i've had this problem with some of my fonts as well, but on some fonts, i noticed it was only happening on one letter.

and moreso, it was only happening when the font size was really big (over 90pt's or so, depending on the font)

what has worked best for me is this....
i type the text at a normal size, 40pts or so, depending on the font. click out of the layer to check if it is still doing it. if so, make it smaller. then i rasterize the layer and resize it that way to the size i need it. it compromises the quality a tiny bit, but not so much that it detracts....

on this lo http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/galle...cat=500&page=2 it was doing it on the "W" in what, so i did the above steps and i don't think you can tell a difference.

hth!
