Question how to make this shape 300dpi ?

Ok, I'm stuck and I need your help. I have a project that needs to use this character (see thread) , Kanji (japanese) for "master". But, I need to make it at least 2" and 300 dpi for printing... However, I'm having trouble making it in photoshop... Funny, I thought it would be easy... just paint right over it, but ugh! it doesn't come out looking very pretty!! Then I thought of selecting it and recoloring but the edges don't look sharp and clean.
Any suggestions please!!

srg, what happens when you just paint over it? I am assuming that you are doing your painting on a fresh layer, painting over the symbol and then hiding the layer that the symbol is on. Can't understand why that is ugh? Please explain more.

It is just that the edges don't look smooth and clean, I can't seem to keep my hand that steady. I guess I'll just have to take more time at it... it seems as though it should be easy, but it hasn't been easy for me so far ...

Arrow example of really clean lines for character

Here is an example of a really good character with smooth clean lines! I've tried different brushes in PS , but so far I can't seem to duplicate its beauty... I'll keep trying though

Have you thought about cheating - drawing it, and scanning it in?

Just a thought

Yes, that is nicely done. I did a layout with such a character and will pull up the original to see what I did (mind you, Momma2EllaRose is probably right that scanning is best).

Found the layout. Is this smooth enough for you? Obviously, I filtered the characters (looking to find out if I used a PS filter or a SuperBlade Pro, actually was using PSP at the time but should translate readily to PS. Have to find the layered version to see what I did but if this isn't good enough, I won't bother.) Let me know--won't hurt my feelings at all if you would like something better! I fully understand.

Oh, yes, that is nice... thank you for your help, any help is appreciated...

And yes, i think also trying to scan it in would be a good idea too. I'll have to see how my drawing is these days
Thanks for all your help... I'll check in again tomorrow...
