Printing the whole page

I have just begun experimenting with electronic scrapbooking, and I'm using Photoshop Elements. One thing I have noticed is that I do not seem to be able to print all the way to the edge of the paper. No matter how I adjust my margins I end up with about 1/4" white border on the top, left and right and even slightly larger than that, on the bottom of the page.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get closer to the edge than that? Or will all my electronic scrap pages have a white border?

White border

Whether or not you have a white border around your page will depend on your printer. Many of them will NOT print "edge to edge", because they need the blank space to advance the paper through the printer.

Look at your printer's manual (or the online help if there is one) and see if there is an "edge to edge" option.

Well harrumph!

I'll have to check my printer manual this evening and see what it says about edge to edge.

Thank you,

Work Around

If your printer won't let you print right to the edge, another alternative might be to print on bigger paper and then cut off the white part.

Bordered-vs-borderless

Some printers will need the 1/4" border to draw paper through the printer without messing up the ink being put down.

Some printers have OPTIONs or PREFERENCES for "bordered" prints or "borderless" prints.

Check out the index in your printers manual for these two terms. It may be as simple as changing an option or a preference. Your manual should tell you the "maximum printable area".

I bought my Canon i950 because one of the borderless feature. I don't think I could ever get a printer that doesn't do borderless now! It is awesome.
