Creating a Striped Background in PSE?

Hey peoples!

Does anyone know how to make a striped background in PSE? I read Tanya's tutorial for photoshop but in Elements I don't seem to have the Single Column Marquee Tool. Or am I just missing it somewhere?

Mary Fran,
I think the easiest way to do it, and the way I do it, is to just use the rectangle tool. You could also use the line tool if you want to be more precise with the size of the stripes.

the only reason why i started doing it with the single column marquee is because when i was using the rectangle it would go " just" to the edge and not beyond which was a problem if i wanted to tear a stripe and use the bevel/emboss. I use the rectangle marquee if i set my paper up just a tad larger than i want the output so about 12.5 x 12.5 if i'm wanting a 12 x 12 and then my edges all run off when i crop it.

I hope that helps.

Nope, there doesn't seem to be a single column marquee tool in PSE. But what I have done to create striped paper is use the rectangular marquee (like Jodi said) but I use it with the grid visible and snap to grid on. Look under the view menu and you should see both of this options. I come from a engineer background and I want to know that all my stripes are a certain size. You should see how anal I am while doing my ABC LOs to make sure that all my little pictures are exactly 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" inches. I'm having a hard time letting go of precision.

HTH!

You can make stripped paper by choosing your colors in the foreground and background boxes. Flood fill a layer with one of them. Go to FILTERS>SKETCH>HALFTONE. Select your pattern>lines and adjust your sliders until you are happy with the preview. This also works well for dots and checks.

I just tried ksmaggie's trick using a yellow and purple (I'm doing Mardi Gras layouts right now!) and rotated the canvas since the lines were horizontal and I wanted vertical. I used the biggest size line and high contrast. This looks like corrogated cardboard that I've seen people use lately. So thanks to her tip, I've discovered something that I wasn't actually looking for! Thanks ksmaggie!
