resize image in lo

I know there is something very basic I am missing, but I have not been able to find it so I was hoping someone else knows the answer.

Often I do not know exactly what size I want my photos/images to be on my lo until I get close to the end of designing it. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to resize individual layers while insuring that I keep the same proportions. In other words I can use the move tool to resize, but it is free hand so sometimes I end up stretching the picture more one way than another and distorting the image. So any hints that are out there I would appreciate.

Thanks **Lacy

Me either! What I do is delete the layer that has the pic, open the original, resize it, drag it over, and then close the original without saving changes. An extra step, but at least the proportions are right.

select your image by clicking on it so a box appears around it with selection anchors on the corners and sides. select a corner anchor and hold your mouse button down and hold down your shift key while you drag the corner to the size you want your image to be - this will retain proportion. If you have a couple of layers such as a photo and a mat behind it you can link those layers and resize both at the same time if you like. have fun! fran

slightly different way to do it

You can also make sure you're editing the layer with your picture in it and hit CRTL-T. Your options bar (which by default is just above your work space) will show how you are changing the picture size. Clicking the little chain icon will make sure that the picture retains the same proportions. Then if you type in a different percentage for the height the width will change by the same percentage or vise versa.

It's basically the same command that Fran talked about, but you can drive it by percentage instead the mouse.

Cool! I didn't know about the shift key- I've been clicking on the chain.
