the black / grey interface is the new defacto standard in software design for photography today. The more neutral color allows your photos to take center stage so your eye floats right to that. Lightroom, aperture, ACDSee Pro2 etc all have that interface color now.

What I don't like about elements 6 is that the color is just so dark.. and the icons just kinda fade right into the background. It is also a bloated program.... too much functionality just blasting you from the main GUI.

I tried it for a few moments, then uninstalled it again. I'd stick with 5 unless you need the "extras" 6 has to offer..

Pesto, I do agree. I think most of the newer versions are bloated. I thought that when they added things like the cookie cutter, which achieved the exact same effect as clipping masks would do. Now there are other things that just are unnecessary. I do like that more shadow control is available.

I think they've messed with it enough to screw it up. The interface may not be bad on a desktop monitor but on my laptop it's difficult to see. I pretty much know where to find things, but I don't know how a new user can see enough to do anything.

That said, I did order a copy of it. I just couldn't find 5 anywhere legit. I mostly use it to do quick and easy and to write tutorials for. I'm moving from version 3.

Yes.. if you are upgrading from 3.. then sure - you'll need to buy 6 because 5 is very hard to find.. although amazon typically has some used version available for <$20... but might as well go to 6 at that point. or - you could move on to ACDSee's 10 or Pro 2 and get a much better program... hint hint hint..

I'm using 5 and 1. I tried 3 a while back but never could get comfortable with it.
