face repair

What is the best way to repair the paper tear in the photo included with this forum post? The face in the portrait of this man has a sizeable tear in it.

I find that the clone stamp tool doesn't look too good with this repair, especially in the area of the ear where the tear extends to.

Thanks for any tips.

Hand repairing with a lot of patience.. I would use a combo of the healing tool along with Clone and straight paint brushes - sampling colors in pixel proximity.. zoom in around 600% or so and start working.. very small areas at a time to rebuild it with pixel data around the spot.

I thik that the tip is very small areas at a time. And you can reconstruct the ear with the clone by cloning from parts that are the same colors. You really have to have some imagination on what the ear would have looked like.

Also, with clone, don't forget you can change the brush opacities. Sometimes just a very light opacity is all you need to put a light shadow. Change brush sizes too. Did you see how I reconstructed here?

Have you seen the PSE tut in the ezine?
