Unhappy coloring stitches

Hi everyone! I am using PSE4 on a Mac. I am confused on how to color stitching. It's part of a template. If I select it and get the marching ants around it, it has the ants around everything but the stitch itself. I can click with the Magic Wand on each individual stitch but that is very time consuming. There has to be a way to select it and then add the color. Speaking of the latter, how can I add color to just the stitching? The Paint Bucket sometimes is too big and the color goes everywhere! I know there must be a way to do all this but I can't figure it out. Thanks for the help! from dry, dry, dry, Mt. Airy, Maryland, Judy

I'm not an expert but one way I change the colors of elements like stitching is as follows: set foreground color in the tools palette to your color of choice; (you may have to hide all layers in the layers palette other than the stitching before you continue by clicking the eye on each layer); in the layers palette, click on the create adjustment layer icon (black & white circle); choose hue/saturation; check the colorize box in the lower right corner; adjust color to your liking; OK. Done! I hope this makes sense and I'll be watching advise from others to see if there is an easier way to do this!

When you select the magic wand tool, above where your layer is, there should be a tool bar. On that toolbar is the choice "contiguous". Uncheck that and then just click in one stitch. All stitches should be selected.

Ok- that worked! But when I select the Paint Bucket, it doesn't color the stitches. How do I color them then? Firecracker, I tried your suggestion but no color appears on the stitches. I don't know why. I did what you suggested........ But unclicking contiguous when using the Magic Wand selected just the stitches but now I can't get the color that I want. Oh, woe is me! Judy

What color are the stitches to start with? If they are white or black you will need an extra step to put color in them - Im not sure of the specifics in PSE but try FireCrackers suggestion again but this time boost the saturation way up, you may also need to adjust the lightness/darkness to darker - just so you get any color in it at all.
After you have some color then you can change the color to suit

What worked for me was to use a paper that was the color I wanted and treated the stitches like a template. I put the paper over the stitches and then did control + g and then merged. Thanks for the help! Judy
