I started with Digital Image Pro (DIP) from microsoft and found it very easy to learn - I just recently moved to Photoshop Elements (PSE) because I wanted a Mac.

I don't think I would have caught on so quickly to PSE if I had not already been using DIP. I really like the extra things I can do with PSE but sometimes when I'm in a hurry, I miss DIP. Hopefully I'll get to know PSE as well with some practice.

Some of the software companies let you download free trials so that might be a good place for you to start.

Hope this helps.

I use PSE3, but since I don't use the organizer any more thinking about upgrading -- I use ACDSee for organizing all my elements -- it's a fabulous program -- I was amazed at how must stuff I had that was just "floating" around!

I use PSE3 and make my LOs 8x8 and print them out myself. I've made very few elements of my own - I mostly rely on the fabulous talent here. If I need a slightly different color - you can recolor in PSE. If I want to share a LO by e-mail, I just use the one I have converted to jpeg that I uploaded to SBB (I save those in a separate folder for just that purpose). Good luck. Just jump in with both feet - that's the best way to learn.

I started with PSE2 because it came free with my scanner. I probably would have never figured out how to use the application if it wasnt for the book by Mikkal.

I don't make my own elements but I do find digi scrapping to more expensive than paper scrapping but since I've completed more LOs digiscrapping than I ever did paper scrapping that I find it worth the extra expense.

I started paper scrapping almost 12 years ago. And I have to say that since I started doing totally digital layouts, I do get a whole lot more done at about the same cost per page--though I did put a lot of embellishments on my paper pages. Right now I do both digital and paper layouts and some hybrid ones too. I love the flexibility of digital and use PSE 5.0. I started out with PSE 3.0 but have also used different graphic design programs through the years. PSE is a great program, but difficult to use at first. But once you get used to it, you'll love the flexibility it offers. I print my digital layouts at home or have them printed at a photo developer. Hope this helps
