Just like starting over...

I feel like a John Lennon song - I set up my shiny new Mac last week, downloaded my new Photoshop Elements and jumped in - OMG it's just like starting over from the beginning. I've been working furiously with every tutorial I can just to get comfortable and I think I did pretty well on my first LO (see Surge Of Power) but I really struggled trying to get it to a size to download and I don't remember what I finally did, and even then it looks so small in the preview section.

Can someone please help me with the short (right) version. I went to Image>Resize and set it 500x500 pixels but that was over the 125kb (about 160) and when I went smaller than 500 it was all pixelated.

What I do it Image>Resize then set it at 500 or 600pixles
Then go to File>Save for Web (which will set it at 72dpi) and normally it is just the right size for gallery upload

Use File->Save for Web. Now, your settings will depend on what the site allows. On the right hand side of the Save for Web (SfW) dialog box you will see height and width, put 600 in for your longest side, and then click the Apply button below that. Then, on the upper right hand side of the SfW dialog you will see a small circle with an arrow, click on that and choose "Optimize to File Size" from the drop down. Another little dialog will pop up. Put 125 KB in the box and click okay. Then press the Okay (or Save) button on the SfW dialog. Your LO should now be small enough to upload.

Thank you all for the tips and sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I jumped on the computer tonight about 5:30 and I've been playing with tutorials ever since...totally got lost in what I was doing Now it's 10:30 and I haven't made a complete LO to post and try out the instructions. Maybe by tomorrow I'll have something worthy of posting.
