Also, can you use actions in PSE?

You have to buy actions that are written specifically to work in PSE5. Older PSE actions may also work, but buy the ones that say they have been tested for your version. You can't use actions written for PSCS.

I started out making chatroom kits in PSE4, so it can be done, but it won't be the same as items created in CS or Illustrator. Guess it all depends on what you want to create, and if PSE5 has the power and options to create it.

You have to take the long way around on some things, and get creative about how to approach things. I design using PSE, though I'm saving up for PSCS. Its much easier to design with PSE than it used to be because of the number of PSE compatible actions out there and the availabity of add-ons that give you alignment tools, layer masks, etc. It also accepts the same commercial filters used by PSCS, so that's not a problem.

If you want to check out what it can do, check out my store.

Atomic Cupcake has some really nice actions. Some designers even use their actions. The ones I have so far have worked in PSE 4 and PSE 5. Anxious to get more of them in the future. I first learned digiscrappin' and making elements in PSP X so if I want to make something of my own that doesn't use one of the Atomic Cupcake actions then I use PSP X. I can make a grosgrain ribbon or rickrack pretty fast in PSP--don't have a clue in PSE 5.

I use PSPX but bought PSE5 a few months back just so that I could run actions on titles and things. I also like Atomic Cupcake actions. I would suggest playing with what you have and see just what you can come up with--it's fun!

you can run actions but not write them. PSE is a good way to start designing - I used it for a year before moving up to PSCS2.
