PSE Organizer

I have PSE3. I have organized all of my photos and scrapbooking materials in it. I have tagged every element, paper, etc. Now, I have just purchased PSE 5. I would like to uninstall PSE 3 BUT keep the organizer. Is this possible? I would like to use the organizer in PSE 5. Please say this can be done.

Yes, of course. In PSE 3.0 do a Reconnect all missing files, and then a File->Catalog->Recover. Close down PSE 3.0. Then, just open PSE 5.0 organizer and it will convert your catalog. If you didn't use the default name for your catalog, just do a File->Catalog->Open, and it will convert your catalog. Beware, it can look like it is hanging at 66% or so. Just wait. You may need to go off and make dinner or clean the house, or even go to bed, but it will eventually finish.

Thank you for this info. The only problem is I have a LOT of files to reconnect. It freezes my computer every time I try to do this. Do I have to complete this step before I go to the next?

It is best to have a clean catalog before converting. You can reconnect one at a time - if you know which files need reconnecting. Not sure why it is hanging on you. You could try to do the Recover first, then try the reconnect, then do the recover again before switching. Try that.

(BTW, the reason you have missing files is you moved or deleted them using windows explorer or some other application. You should always manage your files that are in the Organizer from within the Organizer.)

I know. I always forget to use the organizer. I love to use it when I am looking for something but then I forget to use it when I am moving things around!!
