Using the PSE 4.0 ( or 5.0) Organizer

Hello Everyone!

I've read through all the thread pertaining to this, but I was hoping for something kinda "cut and dry" if you know what I mean!

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has all their digi-scrap elements organized in the PSE Organizer. How did you catagorize? How did you tag? etc etc...

Here's what I was going to do. I know this will be a huge job, but it's gotta be done!

1. First of all, I want to clear OUT my main catalog. Delete everything (but NOT, of course, from the hard disk!)

2. Set up TWO MAIN CATEGORIES: Digital Scrapbooking and Photos. I'm only going to dive into the Digital Scrapbooking catagory here, 'cause I doubt anyone would care about how I organize my photos!

3. Now I'll set up COLLECTIONS within the Digital Scrapbooking Category. I'm thinking: Papers, Elements, Overlays, etc

OR!!

Should I designate each KIT I have as a "collection" itself? I really like this idea, as it would keep kits all together. I don't like the idea of chopping them up. However, I could always designate a kit by assigning tags that indicate the name of this kit....

4. TAGS seems like it will be the biggie. My tags for each file will include color, designer's name, maybe style (like grunge, baby, etc), type of element (paperclip, staple, etc).

Anyway, for you pros out there...does this sound like it will work? Am I missing anything that I will someday regret?? ha ha!

I look forward to anyone's input!

Blessings,
Julie

Hi Julie,
Before you commit to a lot of time with Organizer, you may want to consider ACDSee Photo Manager. Many have had Organizer bog down at 20 gig or so.

With ACDSee you can import your tags from PSE & then start with that.

We also have premade categories that can be imported.

You can see what we have here. It may give you ideas about organizing even if you decide to stay with PSE too.

I used PSE 4 organizer and it was great but had so much stuff it just got slow even when it was only digiscrap stuff and I just started using windows folder views to look for stuff. Have bought ACDSee but haven't started with it yet. Have heard great things about it though.

Hey ladies!

Well, you are all right! I began importing my scrapping stuff into PSE Organizer, and now the darned thing FREEZES up on me everytime. I just can't use it at all, and I'm heartbroken!

I can't afford to buy anything right now, so I downloaded Picasa. On first impression, I am not sure I like how the folders are imported by date. I have all my scrapping stuff in my "Scrapbooking" folder, and that wasn't even acknowledged by the program; only dates. Maybe there's some setting I can change to just keep the original Window's file structure, I'm not sure.

Anybody else use Picasa? I'm also going to look up PicaJet and see what it's all about!

Julie,

Have you done a File->Catalog->Recover in the Organizer? This cleans up and compacts the database. It is important to do after you do a bunch of work in the Organizer.
