Centering An Item

Is there a command in PSE that you use to center an item? I have used PSP and you can center an item in there either vertically, horizontally, or in the canvas. Does PSE have this option?

If you hold down the shift key while moving an item onto your layout - it will center it on the canvas.

Which version of PSE are you using? Version 5 has aligning tools, but prior versions don't. I used Grant's Tools before I upgraded. They're a plugin you can download.

Grant's Tools are indispensable. So easy to use. Just group the items, activate the layer you want everything to align too and voila!

If you don't have Grant's Tools, try this: make sure your rulers are on, then get your move tool, and put the move cursor right on the circle in the middle of the item you want center. You will see lines on the rulers that show where your cursor is. The other thing I do, is move my cursor right over the box on center left and see where that shows, and then the same over the center top and see where the line ends up on the ruler. Then I use my arrow keys to do a little nudging, but you have to keep moving your cursor/mouse to see where exactly the middle is.

Thanks all. I have PES 5.0 and don't have a clue about using much in it yet. I am downloading "Grants Tools" and will have to try and figure out how it works.

If you have PSE 5.0 you have an alignment tool. Click on the Move Tool (top left of the toolbar). Now look at the top of the screen. towards the center and right. You'll see some options--Arrange, Align, Distribute. Click on the little triangle to the right of Align. You'll see your options.

Top Edges
Vertical Centers
Bottom Edges

Left Edges
Horizontal Centers
Right Edges

Hold down SHIFT and select the layers you want to align. Then choose the option you want.

Try playing around with the Arrange and Distribute tools as well. I know you'll find them very useful.

If you are wanting to center ONE layer, the alignment tools won't help you because you have nothing to which to align the layer. If the layer is a regular, raster layer (not text, not a shape layer) you can use this strategy:

Use the shortcut Control+A to select all. Use the shortcut Control+X to cut the selection. Use the shortcut Control+V to paste the selection back. It will be pasted exactly in the middle of the document.

Hope this helps you out!
