Question Adding shadows w/o using a drop shadow

Without going into all the unnecessary details... which could take a while, I'd like to add a shadow to an element without using the drop shadow function on the layer. I tried to search the various threads and tutorial, but was unable to find anything.

Is there anyway to do this in PSE4?

Thanks

Nicki

You can paint in a shadow with the burn tool by hand. It is tedious though so I wouldn't use it for everything, just those things that need a tweeking that the drop shadow feature can't do.

Dianne Rigdon has a tutorial on hand shadowing at her site shabby elements that you may find useful. I'm not sure I can post the address here so just google "shabby elements" and her site should come up.

HTH.

YOu can use a duplicate shape and gaussian blur to create a shadow..
Basically:
Duplicate the object >> fill with black > move it behind> apply gaussian blur til you get the shadow effect you want

I also use this technique to alter drop shadows:
-apply drop shadow
-simplify the layer
-use an erase brush on the drop shadow to change or soften it
