Selective Photo Tinting

Hi

In this tutorial, Selective photo tinting, it shows how to make parts of a picture transperent (in Digital image) so that the layer below shows through.

I can't figure out how to do it PSE. Can you help?

Thanks

I have Photoshop CS, but I assume it's probably the same for PSE.

You just duplicate the photo- so you have 2 layers. The top layer you would desaturate and then choose your eraser tool and erase whatever you want to show through from the bottom layer- make sure you zoom waaaaay in. (You can use a mask, but that get's a little more complicated.) Then you would merge those layers together and drag the photo over to your LO.

Yep, it's just the same in PSE. Laurie gave a great overview. If you need more detailed help just let us know.

How do you desaturate? I'm wanting to have a black & white background with my subject in color - would this be the best way to do this or is there a better way? I'm using PSE 4.0

You can desaturate the active layer by hitting CTRL +SHIFT + U. Check out this tutorial for more tips on creating a B/W image.
