elements and clip art question

I did my first layout did not post it yet. I have a question about elements. What are they and are they listed in photoshop elements menu or do we make them or download them from other members? Are they the same as clip art. Does Photoshop element have clip art in the program. If not how do I get it into my layout? I looked and looked for clip art in the program and even searched but cannot find cliparts. I appreciate all your help. Th ank you Stasia

Not sure if I understand question but will try to help.

elements as in ribbons, bows, tags etc??
You can either make these or download these from store or from the download section.

You can use Photoshop Elements to make elements (ribbons bows, tags, papers etc) and the program is called Photoshop Elements

Ok I feel like I am doing a 'who's on first'

Take a look at our tutorial section too: http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/new-t...rapbooking.php

I think I may know what you are asking.... I am fairly new myself. Most elements are separate files you can download, not found within your actual program. Check out the free download section of this site. In the free kits there are files for backgroup papers and "elements" to create pages with. Just like paper, ribbons, tags, etc.

To include an element, open both files (your main page and the element you want to bring in) . The element should have a transparent background. Use the "move tool" in the upper left hand corner of your tools nav bar to drag the element on to your page. Check out some of the tutorials - there are great step by step instructions.

If there is any easier way to do this, I'd love to hear it.

Best of luck

Nicki

ok but what about clip art?

Ok thank you for answering. I think I understand. I either make tags, ribbons, etc or download elements from the freebies section.
But about clip art? Does Photoshop element have a clipart section . If not how do I bring it to my work area?

If you are creating papers etc you can use clipart to design the elements but clipart is not generally used by itself on pages. I believe the reason is clipart isn't usually 300dpi (print quality).

Also, when you download from either the free section or from a bought kit make sure you keep track of who you got the kit/element from. This is because I didn't at first and I have some layouts that I am not sure where my great papers came from. You want to be able to give credit to those you got your supplies from. I hope this helps you! Good luck with your elements!

One thing this post made me think of...you really can not use the elements that you get here in the freebie section or from kits you buy to make additional items from.
Example you can't take a ribbon, bow or buttons from the kits and use them in making a paper or to use an element ribbon and place it on another frame and call it yours ....
Elements are not clip art for free...they already belong to the creator or designer who made them. You can use them to create a Layout, but you also can not sell that LO or do this for a business if you do not get permission for the creator of those elements...
I don't mean that this is what you intended at all...it just struck me as I read through this thread and the confusion about elements Vs. Clip art issues!

You can find clip art by googling it and then you can save whichever clip art you want to save and then open it just like you do any other image in your program.
