Question Colorizing Details In Black And White Image

I am using PSE4 I saw something in a magazine that I would like to try but for the life of my I have not been able to figure out out to do it. What I want to de is add color to certain details (like eyes, flowers, trees ect) in a photo that will be in black and white in the rest. i went thru the turotials but I couldn't seem to find what I was looking for. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Open your color image. Add a duplicate layer over the top. Turn the top layer black and white. Then using the eraser tool, erase the areas on the black and white layer that you want to be colorized. The color will show through. You're not actually adding color to a b&w, but adding b&w to a color photo and then erasing the areas you want tinted.

Or if you want to do it so that you can tweek it a lot (like if you make a lot of mistakes like me) add an adjustment layer (Layer-Adjustment Layers-Adjust Hue/Saturation and turn the saturation all the way to the left)on top of your pic and then use your brush tool to paint (with black) the parts of your pic you want to show through color. If you make a mistake then just paint the mistake with white and it will correct it. I usually work in big chunks then zoom way in to clean up my mistakes to make it look good. HTH!

this is exactly what i do...and i do this alll the time!!

ive tried many ways...and this is far the easiest and quickest...

any time you make a mistake you can either go backwards or delete that layer and start over!

It's not changing all the layers, it's just that you can only see the top layer. If you click the little eye next to the top layer, it hides that top layer and you'll be able to see the color underneath. Or try erasing on that top layer. The color should show through.
