Drop shadow size

I like to have a deep space behind my pictures when I drop-shadow them but when I choose a style it doesn't correspond with what appears. Some times I achieve the desired effect but it is not always consistent with what I have selected. I've been through the lot in trying to get the deep shadow and none of them produce it consistently. Can anybody help me please?

Do you have a pic of what you are looking for? Not sure what you mean by deep shadow. Whenever I use the drop shadows I always use the low one and then adjust it to be smaller (like 4-10) depending on what is shadowing.

When you print out the pages the shadows become very noticeable so in order to make it more realistic I make mine shallower, but if you give me an idea of the look you are going for I may be able to help better.

Oh and if I'm using a very puffy element like a fiber or a tied ribbon, then I duplicate the layer, add a drop shadow to that layer and then reduce the opacity of the drop shadow layer until I get a look I'm going for. Maybe you could duplicate the layer and add drop shadows to both layers to get a deeper shadow.

Sorry if I'm sounding stupid, but HuH? In PSE 3 the Layer Styles is where you have the drop shadows (High, Low, Noisy, Hard Edge, etc). What other Styles are there, maybe I'm missing something here! Its pretty much been a select layer styles, select drop shadows, and then click on the one I want, but is there another way? Sorry if I'm being slow here, just thought I had this thing pretty much down by now! LOL Oh well I'll keep on learning too!

Which verson of PSE are you using? To adjust the height and depth on a shadow, you double-click on the little circle with the "F" to get a slider. If this doesn't help, duplicate the layer, apply the shadow to both, and then merge the two. This will increase the shadow effect. Since I found out about the double layer by accident, maybe this is what you did to get the effect that you are looking for? If you can post an example, i'm sure we could all try to figure out how to get the shadow you are looking for.

I'm using PSE 3 and I can't find the slider. That sounds like a good idea if it was there. Perhaps you have PSE 4. Thanks also for your suggestion about duplicating the layer. I'm not confident about how to do that but I'll have a go. I'm from friendly South Australia[/i]

You have the slider! After you click and add a generic drop shadow from the Layers Styles then just double click on the little f in your layers pallatte and then a box should pop up with several things to adjust including angle and distance. You can either type in a number or drag the slider back and forth. I have PSE 3 too and I know I use this all the time! I wish uI could figure out the screen shot thing to show you! Let me know if you still don't see the sliders etc.
