Bald scrapper

I am pulling my hair out. It will not be pretty if I do not stop. I just finished the "Scrappers Guide-Photoshop Elements 3.0-Scrapbook Basics" (awesome CD by the way). I open a new page...then go to a pictures folder and pickl two pics (they show up in the photo bin as the CD shows) I want them to open ON the page where I have a new blank page (as in the CD). I want to be able to drag them over to the new page and resize (just like the CD). But when I click on the photo in the bin it opens but totally obliterates the new page (not like the CD). I cannot drag the photos onto the new page it will not let me BUT everything is in the photo bin. What am I doing wrong? OK maybe a little sensory overload after watching this CD for several hours. Can someone help me I am feeling overwhelmed?

Not bald yet,
Patte

Hi Patte-
I don't have PSE- I have PSCS- so forgive me if I am way off base.

Someone had a similar problem the other day- I think.

I suggested that she click on the double square in the upper right hand corner (next to the "X")- so that your newly opened photo isn't taking up the whole screen. Then you should be able to drag it onto your LO.

HTH

BTW- If your LO is maximized (single square showing in upper right hand corner), then your photos will open maximized. So if you click on the double square for your LO, then the newly opened photos won't take up the whole screen. Hope that makes sense.

Patte,

It is so frustrating at first! Laurie gave you good advice...I will tell you another way.

Leave the document on which you want the photos in the bin. Open a photo so it is above the bin. Activate the move tool, and drag the photo (or element, paper, or whatever) to the document you want to put it on, which is in the bin. You can drag to the bin but you can't drag from the bin. This was confusing/annoying to me when I upgraded to PSE 3, but I am now used to it and don't give it a second thought.

Ask if you have more questions. You will get it!

When your photo "obliterates" the new blank page, it has actually just covered it up. This is OK. Now look in the upper right area of your screen. You will see a button that looks like 4 little squares, and one that looks like 2 little squares. The "4" button will open all photos onto your screen from the photo bin, not stacking them on top of each other. The "2" button will show your blank page and the photo that was covering it up. [hard to explain, but easy to do]
Your screen now has what looks like partial pictures on it. Click on your photo, to be sure it is "active", and then use the "move" tool (top of tool bar) to click & drag it onto your blank page. Another method is to Select>all and Edit>copy; then click on the blank page to make it "active" and Edit>paste. When it has moved, you can either minimize or delete that photo; maximize your blank page and complete your LO.
Hope that helps ..

I do it a little differently... I guess like with most things theres more than one way. I go up to the top to "window" then down to images and over to "cascade images" then all of the pictures that are in the photo bin appear in the editing area. Then you click the move tool and drag them into whichever one you want to be the biggest. Hope you get it all figured our before you pull your hair out! I have times like that since starting PSE3 also and end up going back to Picture It!!! Good luck!

Funny.. this is really just a windows usuage issue. All program in Windows (well most) should have 3 icons in the top right: a minimize (-), maximize (+) and exit/close (x). Photos, documents, etc all have these on their window. If something opens, then go to Windows in the menu bar and you'll see the titles of the other windows. Choose and go. To close one, just click the x (not the main program x.. just the photo x). Good lluck@
