i can't seem to crop a picture once i've placed it on my page. even though it's on it's own layer, when i use the crop tool it crops the whole page. is there a way to crop a picture once it's on my scrapbook page? i can resize it by dragging, but not crop...

You've hit the nail on the head. The crop tool is for cropping the entire image or LO in this case. To crop an individual picture on it's own layer use the marquee tool to draw a rectangle or oval in the shape that you want your photo to end up in. Then right click and select Invert Selection and then hit the Delete key.

If you want your photo cropped into funky, fun shapes use the Cookie Cutter in PSE3 and here's a Cookie cutter tut.

Or.. you could open both pictures... the LO adn the picture to crop. Crop the photo and then copy/paste it to a new layer on the LO.. then just close the original photo. Works like a charm!
