viewing font

OK. One more question. In Microsoft Word, if you drop down the font tab, you can see what each one actually looks like. Is there a way to do that in PSE 3? I don't know how else to view all of those fonts to find the perfect one. Is this a clear question!? LOL

I couldn't believe it either, but no there is no way to see the actually font in PSE. I open up Word and type out some text, changing the font from the drop down until I find what I want. Then I go back to PSE. Haven't found any other way around this shortcoming.

Yep, I'm not sure why Adobe doesn't have that feature but here's a couple of thoughts. You can use a font manager like The Font Thing or Xfonter. These programs let you see whatever sample text you enter in a bunch of fonts all at once. Plus Font Thing lets you categorize your fonts. I'm not sure that Xfonter has this feature. I haven't used it as much.

Another quick way to check out fonts in PSE, is to type in your text and click okay. Then with the text layer still active, change the font in the text tool. Instant gratification.

HTH! And maybe we need to start lobbying Adobe with the features we really need in PSE! LOL

Rats! I thought for sure I was just unable to figure it out! I will look into those ideas though - thanks and glad I am not the only one who is frustrated about that!

I use a program called AMP Font Viewer. I dont actually install all my fonts because it slows down you computer. I save them all in a folder in 'My documents' called 'new fonts'. With AMP I can view installed fonts and non installed fonts.. when I find the non installed font that I like I click the 'install font temporarily' button and then in whatever program I use word or ps or psp, the font will be listed there for me to use.
When I close AMP the font is uninstalled again..

FontThing will also let you arrange things as Cheetahbaby does. You can keep fonts in a different folder so that they do not load and clog at startup and you can temporarily load a font you want whenever you like. It allows you to make collections of fonts ie. even though all my uninstalled fonts are in one directory, when I view with FontThing I can look at them segregated into categories that I find useful for me: script, grunge, decorative etcetera.

Cross my heart and hope to die, this is real simple stuff when you see it, just sounds complicated when people have to write it out. PM me if you have any questions.
