Question drop shadows in own layer

I thought I had done this before but maybe it was in PSP. What I want to know is if anyone knows how to make a drop shadow in it's own layer so that you can adjust the opacity of that layer and so forth? I tried to right click the layer syle as I read in another thread but nothing shows up. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You can duplicate the layer of the item you want the shadow to be on and then add the drop shadow to this layer and adjust the opacity of the layer. That way the item stays the same and the shadow or bevel or whatever you add will change in opacity. I love to do this for more realistic results on some of the non-flat items I make/use. I hope that helps!

Another option is to create your own drop shadow. Select the shape of the element you want to add a shadow to (CRTL click on the layer in the layer palette). Then create a new layer below the element. Feather the selection if you want a soft shadow and then fill the selection with black or any other color you want. You'll also need to move the shadow out from under the element a little. To do this just use the CTRL and the arrow keys to move the shadow layer one pixel at a time.

THT!
