Making paper look brown/aged around the edge

I am working on a vintage layoutand would like one of the paper layers to look brown around the edge--kind of grungy or perhaps like it's been burned. I'm not having much luck with the burn function--it burns the color of the paper (in this case green to a darker green). When I use a soft brush it looks too perfect. I use PSE3. Any tips you can pass along on how to do this?

Thanks!

If you use a brush that has a lighter opacity I usually try to have a brush that is sort of CHALKY then I'll space it a bit so that it's not so filled and has a bit more randomness to it. I tend to use a yellow color when initially chalking the edge so that i can change the color easily later using the colorize option or replace color tool in photoshop.

It takes a while for it to look right but then i keep the template and i can recolor it to anything later if i want to use it again.

lot's of great brushes can be found that are already "grunged" up or you can make your own.

Photoshop has some default "chalk' brushes that work ok as well. Rotating your brush too as you do each side so that you are using the same 'edge' of the brush along each side.

I hope this is making sense. --

hope that helps a bit

I use brushes as well -- I just choose a color like I would if I were "really" inking it -- perhaps a black or a tan. Play around with the opacity until you get an effect you like.

I use my own brushes that I've made for my effect. My favorite is one I made from a picture -- If you PM me your email address, I can email you some brushes I've made, including the one called "Mossy line" that I use to ink edges. It has two sides, one more "goopy" and one more smooth. That's how I got the inked edges on my zoo kit layout -- you can see it here:

(you can also download the kit in the downloads)

Anyone else who'd like the brush set can also PM me with your email address.

I love the inked edge! If you are sending out, my email is diazcamille@hotmail.com

I just got PSE3 for Christmas, and I'm learning, but there's so much I have no idea how to do yet! It's been fun, though!
