Exclamation borderless printing woes and solution

Hi all - I'm coming out of lurkdom because I want to share something I learned today. I was about to post with a question about borderless printing on my Canon i860 printer. It printed borderless 8.5 by 11 LOs beautifully, especially after I read on one of these forums to use the software that came with the printer instead of trying to set it up in the printer settings! LOL. Much thanks to whoever posted that tip! The problem was that it seemed to "cut" off a bit of my design all the way around, which was very irritating after I spent so much time getting everything exactly where I wanted it.

So I went searching through the Help files, and then on the internet, finding only something about aspect ratios. Oh good grief, I failed miserably at math in the long ago dark ages of my youth!! Then I remembered a small utility that I had once upon a time, and found that it's still available. I hope that it's all right to post the name. It's called FotoCrop, and it's meant to be used within PSP 6 or 7 (I use PSP7). I can't see why it wouldn't work with versions 8 or 9, but then I don't own either, so I can't say for sure.

What I did was to open a 12 by 12 background, then copied and pasted my layout on top. I kept that open, not minimized, then opened FotoCrop at the same time. There you can choose a standard photo size or custom, like my 8.5 by 11. Then I used the selection tool to select my original LO, then chose to Crop To Selection. I saved it as a jpeg, then used my Canon software to print. It worked perfectly! There were no cropped off edges, I had a perfect 8.5 by 11 print exactly as I had designed it, and I was doing the happy dance!! On some LOs it doesn't matter if something gets cut off, but on the one I had been working on, I had framed rectangles very close to all the edges. It was those frames that were getting "cut" off.

Anyway, I've posted this LO, my very first one, (!) if anyone cares to look. And I sincerely hope this helps those who use both PSP and Canon borderless printers. Thanks for "listening".
