For Grosgrain ribbon, I start with a new image a little longer than the size I want my finished ribbon. I draw a narrow 3d rectangle, border=15 depth=30, with a gradient fill. Duplicate this rectangle 6-7 times and align all objects vertically, then space evenly, then group. You may want to save this group or the single rectangle in your Easy Pallette, so you can change the colors and use it again. Duplicate this group as many times as needed to fill your space. Use the align tool to tweak everything until you like the results. Merge as single object. Now, using a color a little darker than the darker end of the gradient, play around with different paint and texture settings and use the paint on edges effect (Effects>Creative>Paint on Edges) to make the finished edges. When you have a result you like, use the magic wand tool with a low similarity setting, uncheck 'search connected pixels', click on 'select on objects' and select the painted edge. Use an embossing effect to give the edge a little more texture (I like FM Tile Tools blend emboss)
Now go to the Easy Pallette painting gallery and play around with different textures. I like to use the fabric texture, but tweak it a little by right clicking and selecting the 'modify properties and apply' option. The corrugated and crumpled textures produce some interesting effects, as well.
Don't forget to save your finished product in your Easy Pallette for easy access.
