Ok. Is there an advantage to using unsharp mask in say PSE over using the sharpening feature that came with my scanner software?

Also, is there anything special that I have to do when I import the photo into PSE in order to crop and enlarge and maintain the highest resolution???

I'm sorry I'm so confused........
