the only printer that doesn't do that that is an inkjet printer are the Epsons...
I think though it has to do with a combination of using an Epson printer with Epson inks on Epson Papers...
I have an old Epson Photo 875DCS I've had for about 4 years now, back when they were $400... Imagine what I could have now(large format wise-lol) but I use the inks that are made for that printer and Epson double sided Matte paper every year for Christmas Cards/Postcards, and tested these the first year I made them by soaking the final copy in a sink of water... Other than the fact that it was a little warbled(the paper that is) the print had not changed one bit, as far as color or running, etc...

They are the ones to listen to (imo) as they test all the archive stuff for the major museums and libraries, etc... They give you the down-low on all types of printers, inks, papers, etc
