With over 20 years in the graphic design biz, I'll pass along this handy tool I have used for years to score board. It is the best and least expensive, too: a jumbo paper clip! That's right, it's the correct width for a score and I use it alongside my metal straight edge.
If you ever purchase any of my crafts or my computer crafting book, I include that tip in there, along with illustrations.
When I taught graphic design at a private college, I gave every student one, and they realized what a great tool it was. I learned this tip from a designer I worked with when I was pretty wet behind the ears myself and I still use a jumbo paper clip today!
