I don't use a font organiser but this is how to use uninstalled fonts.
I keep uninstalled fonts in a separate folder. When I want to use one of them I go to the font and double click to open it. A window opens up with a sample of the font. Minimise this window. Now open your graphics program and the font should be available. IMPORTANT: You must open the font BEFORE you open your graphics program or Word or it won't work.
Some fonts don't seem to show up if you select "Insert Font". If you select "insert shaped text" it usually shows up there.
